Tree Planting and Landscaping

We were tasked with a large area to turf and landscape and to plant specialist trees some of which had been sourced from Wales.

The tree planting included three Yew Trees, a Cherry Tree, an Oak Tree, two Cypress trees and a Western Red Cedar.

We prepared the area for turfing, rotavating, levelling and fertilising before laying the turfs and watering in.

When it came to planting the new trees, we were careful to choose the best location for each variety. We prepared the soil properly, to give the tree the right care and maintenance. We added additional compost and organic matter to the soil to improve its fertility and drainage.

Holes were dug at least twice as wide as the root ball, and deep enough so that the top of the root balls were level with the surrounding soil. We made sure the tree was straight and upright, and backfilled the hole with the loosened soil, tamping it down gently. Finally, we watered the tree thoroughly, and add a layer of mulch around the base to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.

We left instructions with the school for caring for the trees so they will thrive and survive for many years.
